Who we are
Orator CRM is canvassing software for political campaigns, operated by CDServices, LLC, a Texas limited liability company. Campaigns license the software and supply their own voter data; canvassers use the field app on a campaign’s behalf. Orator CRM is a tool for campaign staff and volunteers and is not directed to children.
What we collect
- Canvasser accounts — name, login, and optionally email, phone, and ZIP. Accounts are created by a campaign manager, not by public sign-up.
- Location. When a canvasser saves a door record the app records a single location reading, its accuracy, and diagnostic details about how the reading was obtained. Separately, route recording is off by default; if a canvasser switches it on, the app records periodic position, speed, heading, and battery level while a shift is active, and Android shows an ongoing notification throughout.
- Device and app information — app version, build, and basic device details.
- Voter data. Campaigns supply voter files they have obtained themselves, and we license voter data to campaigns for political campaign purposes.
We use this to show canvassers their walk list, to give campaigns an accurate picture of which doors were covered, to flag irregular patterns for a person to review, and to operate and improve the product and the records it maintains. We do not use personal information for advertising, and we do not use it to promote commercial products or services.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of service providers to run the product: cloud hosting and database services, and mapping services used to display addresses and routes. They process data on our instructions, may not use it for their own purposes, and are required to protect it to the standard set out here. We may also disclose information where we are legally required to.
Retention and deletion
Campaign and voter data is retained while the campaign holds an active license, and is deleted or returned on request after it ends. Canvasser account records are retained with that campaign’s data. A canvasser may request deletion of their account and associated personal data by emailing us; we will delete it rather than deactivate it, except where we are required to keep something for legal or security reasons.
Your choices
- Route recording can be switched off at any time in the field app’s Settings.
- Location permission can be revoked in the device’s own settings. The app still works; door records are simply saved without a location.
- To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, email the address below.
- Requests about a voter record should go to the campaign that holds it; where we receive one directly we will refer it to that campaign.
Security
Access is restricted per campaign and enforced in the database itself, not only in the interface. Data is encrypted in transit, and administrative access to production systems is limited to the operator of CDServices, LLC.
Changes
If we make a material change we will update the date above and, where it affects canvassers, surface it in the app.
